“Never stop praying; prayer is the fuel to miracles.”
Meet the rest of my class
My name is Josue Limon and I am called to serve the Church as a priest of the Diocese of Tuscon. This is my story.
Growing up in Southern California to Mexican immigrants, faith was a constant in our household. My parents prioritized sending my brother and me to Catholic school, despite the financial sacrifices involved. We attended Mass every Sunday and adhered to the practices of our faith. As a young boy, I thought about the possibility of becoming a priest.
As I grew, though, those thoughts were replaced by typical boyhood dreams of becoming a sports star. In college and after, I turned away from my faith and immersed myself in practicing family-based immigration law. Despite my achievements, I felt a growing sense of emptiness with a life of work and superficial fulfillment.
After years of drifting, a significant turning point came with the birth of my niece, Lyra. My sister-in-law’s pregnancy was fraught with complications, and their beloved little one was nearly lost. Though I hadn’t prayed in years, I found myself praying fervently for the baby’s safety. Her safe arrival felt like Divine intervention, compelling me to return to the Church. I enrolled in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). This decision marked the beginning of a profound spiritual journey. In RCIA, I reconnected with the teachings and traditions of the Church, finding new meaning in the Faith I had previously dismissed.
After a year of discernment and service, I felt a strong pull towards young adult ministry and continued adult faith formation. My experiences with RCIA and a young adult group during the pandemic revealed the profound impact of these ministries. Helping others navigate their faith journeys, and seeing their transformations, inspired me to pursue a path where I could make a lasting difference.
A pivotal moment in my journey came when I received a letter from my old high school principal, who was a priest. He asked if I had ever considered the priesthood, and reminded me never to forget my faith. Though I received this sealed letter over 20 years after it had been written, it was like a Divine call urging me to explore the priesthood, a vocation that I hadn’t considered since I was a young boy.
During a year as a field agent in the Knights of Columbus organization, I travelled throughout the Diocese of Tucson. My territory was predominantly Hispanic. Every time I entered a home, I felt I was with family. I began to become deeply aware of the yearning that this community has for more Hispanic priests.
I am drawn to both adult and youth formation. RCIA has been one of the most amazing ministries in which I have served. The Diocese’s ministry to migrants and support for low-income communities resonate deeply with me, further solidifying my desire to serve the poorest of our brothers and sisters as a priest. As I look to the future, I am filled with hope and determination to fulfill my vocation, serving God and my community with all my heart
Please pray for me and my fellow Laboure classmates on our vocation journey. Feel free to reach out with any questions you might have josue@rescuevocations.org.
