November 2, 2026

The Labouré Society was featured in a New York Times article by reporter Sejla Rizvic, published April 4, 2024. The article looks at how student loan debt keeps many young Catholics from entering religious life. It highlights Labouré as one of the organizations helping aspirants overcome that barrier. The article notes that Labouré has helped more than 400 people (current number is 500+) enter religious formation since 2003. It also describes how facilitators train aspirants to raise funds through phone calls, letters and meetings with benefactors.

The article features two Labouré alumni. Jake Smith felt called to the priesthood after three years of medical school and had raised nearly $60,000 toward his student loans.
