Meet the rest of my class
My name is Asim Ashiq. I am discerning a call to serve Christ and His Church as a priest with the Congregation of Jesus and Mary (Eudist Fathers). This is my story.
I grew up in Pakistan, in a Catholic family where the Faith was woven into the rhythm of daily life. Much of my childhood was spent in a boarding school run by American Dominicans. Living in community taught me that faith is expressed in how we study, work, live, and care for one another. I was drawn toward a life centered on God and His people, and entered a minor seminary. When my father became gravely ill, I left formation to care for him. Following his death, I sought to return to my previous formation path, but that door did not immediately re-open.
I questioned whether God had in fact called me to religious life. Providential guidance came while scrolling on my phone. I saw a post about works of mercy in Pakistan connected to the Congregation of Jesus and Mary, the Eudist Fathers. I had never heard of them, but something stirred within me. I contacted a Eudist priest, and that opened a new door. Before leaving Pakistan, I helped Eudists distribute shoes to 200 children. Shoes might seem like a small gift; yet in Pakistan, they mean dignity, protection, and hope. That showed me the Eudist charism, which resonates with my own journey. Their spirituality and works of mercy unite prayer, evangelization, and practical service to those in need. My background has taught me that people need more than material assistance. They need to know that they are seen, respected, and loved by God. I pray that lesson will shape everything I do as a priest.
