My name is Victor Rosas. I am discerning a call to serve Christ and His Church as a priest for the Archdiocese of Hartford. This is my story.
I am one of two children, and grew up in a Catholic family in East Hartford, Connecticut. I recall playing Mass at the age of seven, complete with saltine crackers for hosts. For most of my life, I never asked myself why I was a Catholic – I practiced my faith and received the Sacraments through high school. In college, though, I placed almost everything else before my faith.
Right before the COVID-19 pandemic, I returned home from school with little to no job prospects. The best thing I did that year was return to church. My parish priest encouraged me that it was never too late to start over in my faith journey, so I decided to take one step forward in faith each day. I continued to grow in my faith – in a casino of all places! Through my casino job, I was able to volunteer at my parish with my ample time off.
When I began working in Pennsylvania for the Commonwealth’s Gaming Control Board, I bore witness to the spiritual battle that is gambling addiction. Through helping those in need, I felt the call to serve God’s people for the first time. Soon after, I got in touch with my old parish priest for spiritual direction, and as we continued to meet regularly, it became clear that God was calling me to discern the priesthood.
As I follow God’s calling to the priesthood, I seek others to accompany me on this journey. May we meet so that I can share more? Until then, please keep me and my classmates in prayer, and feel free to reach out to me at Victor.Rosas@rescuevocations.org.
